5 Restaurants to Try This Month: May 2022

May 2, 2022

Want to support local restaurants? Curious about new openings or under-the-radar finds? Here are five restaurants I’m suggesting you try this month!

1. Los Agavez Taqueria

The arrival of spring also means the launch of food truck season, including the city’s many delightful taco trucks. One of our favorites is Los Agavez in Clintonville. They led the way in teaching Columbus about the magic of birria, a slow-simmered beef that’s perfect in tacos. But don’t miss their al pastor in tacos or tortas as well!

2. Aracri on Gay Street

Aracri may sound new, but if you’ve lived or worked for any span of time downtown, you’ll known them as Cafe Napolitana. The long-running family pizzeria recently made the move from High Street to East Gay, a change that included an updated name. But the same giant slices, lunch specials, and cold beers are still in play. (P.S. They have a second location in the South Campus Gateway.)

3. Marino’s Seafood Fish & Chips

After a recent meeting in Grandview, I popped over to Marino’s on Fifth Avenue, if anything just to make sure they’re still alive and kicking. The no-frills fried seafood spot (formerly an Arthur Treacher’s, for those who remember) still seems as busy as ever. Guests line up for their platters of golden brown fried fish, oysters, shrimp, scallops, fries, hush puppies, and other daily specials.

4. Three Bites Bakery

Three Bites Bakery recently opened in King-Lincoln Bronzeville, where owner Isabella Bonello draws on her Italian and Filipino to craft some of the city’s most unique pastries. Visit her shop soon and often for donuts, croissants, coffee cakes, cookies, pineapple buns, cakes, sandwiches, and much more.

5. Everest Cuisine

Every time we eat at Everest in Old Worthington, we saw to ourselves, “We’re so glad this is close to home.” Everest has become one of our go-tos for Indian cuisine (with the added bonus of their Nepali and Tibetan offerings) – whether it’s going out for a quick lunch, a big family dinner, or ordering carryout as a group.
