Friday Food Bites: Franklinton Market opens, OX-B’s fried chicken coming to BrewDog, Punk Pigs closed

There’s always a lot happening in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:

• The Franklinton Market celebrated its grand opening yesterday at 439 W. Rich St. in Franklinton. The business adds a convenience store to the growing neighborhood, and features basic necessities plus locally made products.
• After about two years in business, the SoHud sandwich shop Punk Pigs closed. It was located at 2515 Summit St., former site of Baba’s.
• Multiple sources reported that OX-B’s, a fried chicken shop with locations in Newark, Pataskala, Hebron, and Lancaster (most of which are built out of shipping containers), will take over the kitchen space at BrewDog’s Short North locations.
• 80 East Bourbon & Cocktail Club, a members-only bar featuring high-end bourbon, wine, and cocktails, is set to open at 80 E. Olentangy St. on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
• A fire broke out at the historic Buxton Inn in Granville this week, forcing a temporary closure of the restaurant and hotel. You can read a bit about the hotel in our itinerary Let’s Go to Licking County.
• The forthcoming Bubbly Hall, a food hall set to open Dec. 15 in New Albany, has started doing Mobile Monday, where they host a variety of local food trucks every Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• The East Market hosts Sausage Fest this Saturday, Oct. 29 from 12-4 p.m., pairing samples of sausages with beer.
• This is the last weekend for Natalie’s Coal Fired Pizza in Worthington. They’ll be closing their original location after service on Sunday, Oct. 30. Meanwhile, their Grandview location keeps active with food and live music; they announced that the previously closed Light of Seven Matchsticks cocktail bar would move there, too.
• This weekend only, Mikey’s Late Night Slice’s “World’s Hottest Pizza,” the Fiery Death, will be available at its S. Fourth St. store downtown. The pies are made with Carolina Reapers, Trinidad Scorpion peppers, and Bhut Jolokia Ghost peppers.
• The Senegalese eatery Dabakh Restaurant has moved up the street to 5236 Cleveland Ave.
• Flavor 91 Bistro in Blacklick shared this week that it had been named one of Women’s Day Magazine’s 61 Must-Try Black Owned Restaurants in the U.S.
• Columbus Monthly reported that Aangan India Bistro up at Crosswoods has closed and plans to relocate.
• The Columbus Coffee Festival, Columbus Underground, and Seventh Son Brewing are hosting Brewed!, a festival featuring coffee beers at Seventh Son on Sunday, Dec. 4.
• Multiple sources have also reported that the Afghani restaurant 614 Kebob has taken over the former Couscous House space at 1611 Morse Rd.
