The Whitney House Reopens After a Refresh

January 31, 2023

The Whitney House in Old Worthington reopened last week after being closed for a brief refresh of the space and menu! The restaurant first opened in 2014 in the former P.K. O’Ryan’s space, and this is the first major update to it since that time.

The entire menu was retooled, including their house-made cocktails with a collection of barrel-aged libations.

Beverages also include a collection of craft beers, a curated wine list, and alcohol-free drinks.

The dinner menu is split into Starters, Soups & Salads, Sandwiches, and Entrees.

New starters include the pan-roasted antipasta wrapped in prosciutto.

The pierogis stuffed with truffle, fontina cheese, and braised short rib. (These are a must-order.)

And don’t miss the potato chips loaded with prosciutto and Cambozola.

There are some old hits and new faces on the entrees menu. The chile-rubbed skirt steak is served with a house-made chimichurri.

It’s served with their new tavern fries, which replace the long-time favorite wedge fries. (Which may be a point of contention with some folks.)

Another winner is the short rib, coated with a veal demi-glace and served with wild mushrooms and green beans over cauliflower puree.

And the pan-seared walleye is served on a bed of roasted veggies with shrimp in a rich Cajun butter.

You’ll find some new desserts on the menu, too, like sea salt chocolate chunk cookies served with vanilla ice cream and smoked caramel dipping sauce

Or their fudgy ice cream pretzel cake, layering vanilla ice cream, homemade dark chocolate fudge mixed with toffee, almond butter, and pretzels.

Regular visitors will notice small adjustments, too, like some new booths in the back bar, rugs, updated lighting fixtures, sound-reducing ceiling tiles.

But the restaurant has retained the same tavern vibe.

Happy hour is Tuesday-Friday from 4-6 p.m., with $10 house cocktails, $3 beers, $5 off glasses of wine, half-off appetizers, and $5 off sandwiches.

The Whitney House also serves weekend brunch complete with brioche French toast, short rib hash, steak and eggs, an egg sandwich, quiche, waffles, eggs benedict.
