5 Restaurants to Try This Month: December 2023

December 7, 2023

Want to support local restaurants? Curious about new openings or under-the-radar finds? Here are five restaurants I’m suggesting you try this month!

1. Mordisco

The Venezuelan-focused Mordisco food truck has become a mainstay at Olentangy River Brewing Company. They serve up a great collection of arepas, burritos, avocado toast, and other specialties, all expertly done and a perfect pair for your visit, whether it’s coffee in the morning at the Roosevelt Coffeehouse there or house beers any other time.

2. Stories on High

Stories on High is the 28th-floor eatery on the new Hilton Tower downtown. It’s an eclectic and accomplished companion to Fyr on the main floor, and in addition to some of the best views in Columbus, it features a full bar with unique cocktails, small plates, sushi, and more interesting bites. Bonus: they just launched a new Sunset Menu, available daily from 4-6 p.m. with select dishes and drinks all for $9 or less.

3. Pastries at Parable Coffee

In my mind, Parable Coffee earns the title of one of the best coffee shops in town, and it’s made even better with the pastries crafted by chef Aaron Clouse. He and his team whip up stunning and creative delicacies like flaky croissants, cookies, scones, and many other surprises. Perfect for those colder months, when you want to cozy up with a latte and a fresh pastry.

4. The Pancake House

Not to be confused with The Original Pancake House, The Pancake House is a family-run spot with two locations – Lewis Center/Polaris and Westerville – where they serve excellent pancakes (get the cinnamon roll pancake!) alongside a collection of scrambles, hashes, omelets, all the other favorites. Most importantly, they serve a number of Latin-inspired breakfasts, like a Venezuelan brunch platter with arepas!

The Pancake House
129 W. Schrock Rd. (Westerville)

1182 E. Powell Rd. (Lewis Center)

5. Yellow Springs Brewery Taproom & Kitchen

As long-time fans of Yellow Springs Brewery (their Boat Show is one of my favorite IPAs in Ohio), we were very excited to have them open a location in Columbus. Last month they took over the former Crest space in Clintonville, and are now serving a focused menu of sandwiches and bar snacks to go with cocktails and house beers.
