Man, Stauf’s is on a roll these days! As of this writing, they’re up to six locations and have just announced a seventh. Aside from their flagship Grandview store (which has a bigger breakfast menu), they have their shop in German Village and stall in North Market, with newer additions of the Idea Foundry in Franklinton and the Discovery District downtown.
The newest entry to their list opened up a month again inside a renovated church in the heart of Victorian Village. I’ve spent years driving by that stone-sided church, and I’m excited to see it come to life again.
They’ve done a lovely job renovating it. The entire shop fits in the former sanctuary, with the long counter in the center and the space filled with high- and low-top tables, a collection of couches, communal tables, and even a gas fireplace in the corner.
Like their other shops, they offer the usual selection of baked goods, including local selections from Pattycake Bakery.
I visited first on opening day, when a line crawled all the way to the doors and every seat was filled. On my second visit the place was less busy, but still hopping.
Stauf’s offers the usual line-up of espresso drinks, brewed coffee, pour overs, iced drinks, you name it. As of my last visit, they don’t have ceramic mugs yet, so everything’s served in to-go cups.
The program is finished now, but over the summer they debuted a summer passport, where you could visit all their shops and collect stamps.
Given its proximity to the university, it’s no surprise to see a lot of people studying and working at the shop.
And like other Stauf’s outposts, you can purchase whole beans and home coffee brewing equipment.
