Yellow Springs Brewery Taproom & Kitchen Brings Beer and Pub Fare to Clintonville

November 20, 2023

Last week Yellow Springs Brewery opened its Columbus outpost in the former Crest space in Clintonville! This is the brewery’s first foray outside of its taproom and production space in Yellow Springs itself, and they’ve supplemented their brews with a pub menu of snacks and sandwiches.

(Check out their original taproom in Day Trip: Young’s Jersey Dairy & Yellow Springs and A Trek Out to Yellow Springs!)

Regulars of The Crest will notice all the updates to the space, like the new bar tops, the branded mural on the wall, and the addition of more booths, standing tables, and other types of seating.

The beer menu features about a dozen selections, from Yellow Springs signatures like the Boat Show IPA, Zoetic pale ale, Captain Stardust Saison, plus more IPAs, an amber ale, gose, stout, and seasonal brews. (Pictured here is the Tropical Boat Show.)

They also feature several classic cocktails, like a negroni, espresso martini, maple old fashioned, margarita, virgin mule.

The all-season patio has been given an update with narrow picnic tables and benches.

The food menu spans a single page and features snacks, sandwiches, and a couple kid’s items. Note the ready available of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free items.

All the food pairs well with the house brews. I’ve always loved Yellow Springs beers – they’re well executed, pleasing, easy-drinking. (This is the Waning Daylight amber ale.)

Guests can order food and drink at the bar or using the QR codes on their tables. There was a little confusion and delay in getting our food to us, although we know to be patient since they’ve just opened. Generally, though, the food is pretty good! Nothing fancy, but just the kind of bar munchies you want to go with beers.

We started with the pretzel basket with a side of beer cheese.

The poutine fries use house fries, cheese curds from Young’s Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs, a caramelized onion gravy, and a fried egg. We asked for extra gravy, because they got a little skimpy with it. And we could have done without the egg!

The sweet and spicy hot chicken sandwich was a winner: crispy fried chicken breast in dragon sauce, with pickles, peanut slaw, and sesame.

The French dip was pretty good, too. It layers shaved rib-eye, Swiss, and a light horseradish sauce on a hoagie, with a cup of au jus for dipping.

Kudos do the cheeseburger as well. It’s topped with candied bacon, white cheddar, pickle, onion, lettuce, tomato, and an excellent 1001 dressing.

Of course, you can take home six-packs of Yellow Springs beer and brewery swag with you.
