Goood Friends Debuts Brunch at Jackie O’s Downtown

January 5, 2024

In case you missed it last year, the Wario’s team opened a Midwest-inspired sandwich shop called Goood Friends inside Jackie O’s on Fourth. Led by chefs Stephan Madias and Tyler Minnis, as well as Terry Gibbs from Paulie Gee’s, Goood Friends dishes up over-the-top sandwiches, sides, and desserts.

And now they’re giving you a new reason to visit: WEEKEND BRUNCH.

Goood Friends is a perfect fit for Jackie O’s: fun and filling sandwiches to go with house beers and cocktails, all enjoyed in their spacious taproom and two-level patios.

To pair with Goood Friends’ offerings, Jackie O’s offers their full roster of beers, cocktails, and some specialty brunch drinks.

It’s hard to argue with a mimosa and a barrel-aged Dark Apparition stout with your brunch!

Sandwiches are still the name of the game at brunch, and Goood Friends offers five sandwiches, a couple plates, and sides.

The egg sandwich is a good starting point. It combines McMuffin-style egg, hash brown, Cooper’s sharp cheddar with a tomato chermoula jam and green ranch on a toasted bun. We added the bacon, which we highly recommend! As with everything at Goood Friends, the sandwich is loaded with flavor and filling.

The sausage sandwich is similar. It seems simple but is packed with flavor: smashed house breakfast sausage, hash brown, that McMuffin-style egg, Cooper’s sharp cheddar, house-made Goood sauce, and chili crunch on a bun.

The Up the STREET Bagel draws in flavors from the neighborhood: shaved rib-eye Wario’s way, Wario’s sauce, whipped cream cheese, and the McMuffin egg on a sesame bagel from The Lox Bagel Shop. It’s like steak and eggs in sandwich form.

Perhaps the most over-the-top offering is the butter burger. Chef Stephan says it’s a nod to chains like Culver’s. It features two smashed patties, bacon, Cooper’s sharp cheddar, white onion, dill pickle, and is drowned in hollandaise. (That’s your butter right there.)

I mean, just look at it!

Chef Tyler has also hearkened back to his time at the bygone Boxwood Biscuit Co. by perfecting his biscuits and using them in a chicken sandwich. It includes a giant, crispy piece of fried chicken layered with bacon, pickled apple (really love this detail), miso maple butter, Cooper’s sharp, and apple butter on big biscuit. We loved what Tyler did at Boxwood, and we’re glad to see these on the menu.

There’s more to the menu, too, like biscuits and gravy, a McGriddle-style sandwich with pancakes, yogurt parfait, a la carte items. If you’re feeling fancy, you can also add foie gras or caviar to certain dishes.

The Loaded Benny Spuds take those fragrant smashed spuds popular at Wario’s, but top them with bacon, fried eggs, pickle, hollandaise, classy sauce, chili crunch, and hot honey.

The French toast is amped up with rosemary syrup, orange blossom whip, crispy banana, pomegranate, and tahini Nutella. It’s an almost overwhelming mix of flavors that works together quite well.

Goood Friends serves brunch 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (and dinner Wednesday-Sunday starting at 4 p.m.)
