Last weekend we finally checked out Edison Brewing Company, which opened in the summer of 2020 at Gahanna’s Franklin Peak. It’s part of a development that’s focused on a lot of tech and innovation, hence the naming after the inventor, and even the address on Science Boulevard.
It’s called Franklin Peak because it sits at one of the highest points in Franklin County. The brewery and its expansive patio face west with views over a golf course, John Glenn Columbus International Airport, and downtown Columbus. Pretty cool, if you ask me.
The taproom itself features pretty modern brewery decor: vaulted ceilings, garage doors that open onto the patios, a couple wood accent walls, a line of TVs. Glass windows let you see partially into the brewery from the bar.
Edison’s menu spans a pretty big range of styles – more than I was expecting. They lean more into German lagers and traditional ales from UK, with only two IPAs occupying a small corner of the menu. So you’ll find everything from helles lagers to doppelbocks, hefewiezens to a Berliner Weiss, plus a Belgian tripel, a few English porters, and some barrel-aged selections. Cocktails and wines are available, too, plus a respectable collection of whiskeys.
Pictured here is the Brother Thomas Belgian tripel on the left and the AlvAnother Scottish ale on the right.
For our second round I tasted the Zenerator doppelbock while my buddy sipped on some Col. E. H. Taylor bourbon.
Edison also hosts live music, cocktail classes, and local food trucks.
They have a handy concrete stage built next to the patio.
And if you’re a transportation enthusiast like myself – and the wind is blowing the right direction – you can watch planes taking off and landing at the airport.
Edison Brewing is open Tuesday-Thursday, 3-9 p.m.; Friday, noon to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday, 1-7 p.m.
