This post is short and sweet, but I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the Heirloom Cafe, located on the lower floor of the Wexner Center for the Arts. I paid it a visit recently on assignment for the Columbus Dispatch; you can read my review here!
The cafe may be a little hard to find, but it’s open to the public, and there’s parking close by. If you’re visiting the Wexner Center during the day, it’s well worth stopping or starting at the cafe.
They offer a full range of beverages: coffee, tea, juices, sodas, kombucha, alcoholic beverages for later-in-the-day visits. The full coffee menu ranges from brewed coffee to espresso to specialty lattes. I enjoyed a very nicely pulled shot of espresso on my visit.
The Eye Opener burrito is one of their signatures. It mixes scrambled eggs, herbed potatoes, chorizo, sharp white cheddar, and hot sauce in a whole wheat wrap with a little side of salsa. It’s definitely got a little zing – just how I like it. And there’s a vegan version, too.
The breakfast stir-fry is one of their more unique offerings: brown rice, scrambled eggs, bacon, broccoli, roasted red pepper, scallions, and a tamari sauce. It’s pretty filling.
The breakfast menu is offered until 11 a.m. daily, and also includes quiche, granola, egg sandwiches, and toasts. They started offering Block’s Bagels, too – the owners of Block’s in Bexley recently took over operations of the Heirloom Cafe.
I think Heirloom is a fun little find! Just keep in mind that it’s only open weekdays, and they change up their schedule depending on when Ohio State is on break.
