Bottoms Up recently joined the ranks of Columbus coffee shops with a purpose: serve coffee, offer co-working space, and raise money to reduce infant mortality in the neighborhood.
Their space is located down West Broad Street in Franklinton. It’s bright and decorated in natural colors. The coffee shop portion includes a handful of tables and counters, while most of the building is dedicated to the co-working space.
The co-working section is visible through slatted walls, so the space feels open throughout.
The coffee shop menu is simple but covers all the bases. They use Brioso coffees for their pour overs, drip coffee, espresso, cappuccinos, cortados, and a couple unique finds: Canary Island-style drinks.
The menu lists the cortado (a shot of espresso cut with milk) on the Canary Island-style drinks, although I’ve seen them elsewhere. The real unique find is the leche y leche: a shot of espresso mixed with sweetened condensed milk.
The thick condensed milk mostly settles at the bottom of the glass. The drink becomes sweeter the more you stir it.
I can attest is pairs well with a lemon bar.
Between the skylights and windows, the space feels bright and welcoming.
The co-working spaces include individual desks and private offices. You can rent the desks by the hour or by subscription; take a look at their website for rates.
Owen enjoyed our visit to the shop; he spent most of his time trying to convince me he was present for the 1913 Franklinton flood.
The side of the building is painted in the likeness of a photograph of houses knocked over by the floodwaters.
I love the follow-through on the branding, all the way to the upside down sign on the building.
I have to say I love their mission, too. It makes me so happy to see businesses supporting mothers in need right in their neighborhood. Now, do your part and hold your next meeting at Bottoms Up, or rent some office space, or just stop through and get coffee there.
