Bob Evans Goes All-In With Their New Farm-Fresh Protein Bowls

Bob Evans is the long-running breakfast stand-by around Ohio and beyond. The restaurant got its start in southeast Ohio with Bob and Jewell Evans making and selling their own signature sausage on the family farm, eventually opening a lunch counter, slowly spurring the growth that would lead to more than 400 locations across 18 states. With their headquarters in New Albany, though, Bob Evans still has a solid grounding in Ohio.

Fun fact: the first Columbus restaurant that I reviewed on Breakfast With Nick, when I first started in the summer of 2007… was a Bob Evans. I was meeting some friends for breakfast at the Lewis Center location. I only snapped a photo of the exterior before we left; these were the days before smartphones, and I was too self-conscious to haul out my DSLR at breakfast. (Remember a time when people didn’t take pictures of their food?!) You can read my old post here.

I’ve been back to Bob Evans since that time, of course, and it’s been interesting to see how they’ve adapted with changing tastes and trends. The closest Bob Evans to us, on Route 161 near Worthington, recently got completely rebuilt, offering a sparkling new location for enjoying their extensive all-day breakfasts.

In this continued growth, Bob Evans just released two new menu items: their Farm-Fresh Protein Bowls. These are the handy all-inclusive meals for the person who can’t decide. Want some bacon and eggs? Wish you had more avocados and veggies? Looking for the nutritious boost of sweet potatoes and spinach? The Protein Bowls have you covered!

Bob Evans is offering two versions of the bowls. The Double Meat Protein Bowl packs 41 grams of protein by layering two strips of hardwood-smoked bacon and hickory-smoked ham on roasted sweet potatoes, sautéed spinach, cheddar cheese, diced peppers, and caramelized onions.

It’s all topped with two eggs cooked to order (I suggest over medium so you get a nice, runny yolk to mix in), plus diced tomatoes, hollandaise, and green onions. It comes with a side of seasonal fruit and your choice of breads (I recommend the biscuits).

The Avocado Veggie Protein Bowl clocks in at 22 grams of protein, and builds on many of the same elements as the Double Meat: spinach, sweet potatoes, cheddar, peppers, onions.

It also adds roasted corn and black beans, then tops it with two eggs, diced tomatoes, avocado, and their house-made cilantro lime cream sauce. Like the protein bowl, it comes with fruit and biscuits.

When we tried these breakfasts, we found them nicely composed and filling – we both had leftovers to take home! The new Protein Bowls are a great supplement to their existing breakfast menu, and are available for dine-in, carryout, and delivery. Like the breakfast menu in general, they’re available all day.

Bonus: Bob Evans has made breakfast even easier through their app and online ordering. If you download the app, you’ll even get an offer for $3 off your first order for dine-in or carryout.
