We’ve been following Hans and Joelle Hochstedler’s work since we met them working the Hemisphere Coffee Roasters cart that used to operate in Clintonville. Joelle’s family owns Hemisphere in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, and while the duo worked for the roaster for many years, they refocused on Columbus, with Hans starting the roasting operation at Mission Coffee Co. before they branched out to open their own roastery – Florin Coffee – a couple years ago. They set up the Florin roasting facility in an old bakery storefront in North Linden, and almost immediately people started asking if they planned to open a retail shop as well (yours truly included).
And now the answer is: yes! At the end of January they opened the doors to Florin Cafe, welcoming guests and serving brewed coffee, espresso, tea, and snacks.
Florin’s space is long and narrow, with lots of greenery hanging in the windows, tables and chairs scattered throughout. You order at the counter in the back.
The coffee menu spans all the favorites.
Their retail shelf features whole bean coffee, tea, and swag. They’re still operating as a coffee roaster, and in addition to picking up their beans at the shop, you can purchase them online, and even sign up for coffee subscriptions.
We were already fans of their coffee, so this shop was an easy sell. We’ve enjoyed everything we’ve ordered so far.
While you’re enjoying a cappuccino at the shop, you can spy the roasting and packaging facility in the back.
As Hans and Joelle have a long history with coffee, they’ve established great relationships with the coffee growers and importers, so their beans are responsibly sourced from across the globe.
Keep an eye out for their single origin roasts and their blends, like The Ranger and the seasonal Christmas coffee.
