I’m going to cut right to the chase: you should get yourself to the new Three Bites Bakery in Columbus’ King-Lincoln Bronzeville neighborhood. Three Bites Bakery is owned by Isabella Bonello, who’s been operating it as a pop-up until recently opening her first brick and mortar on Mount Vernon Avenue, roughly across the street from the long-running Creole Kitchen.

Bonello’s bakery is a long and narrow space, with a glass-walled counter and a brightly lit case featuring the day’s wares. A couple seats line the counter in the front window, while a collection of tables fill the back.

In the main case, Bonello smartly prices every item the same, so it’s easy to build your own box of goodies, from croissants and donuts to cookies and coffee cakes.

Bonello has work previously with Columbus heavy-hitters like Pistacia Vera and Fox in the Snow, and she employs that expertise, while drawing on her Italian and Filipino heritage, to create one of the most unique bakery selections you’ll find in the city.

We’ve only made one visit to date, but knew very quickly that we’d be back for more soon. Isabella kindly walked me through the day’s selection and I left with a half-dozen treats (plus a couple cookies on the side).

On my first trip, I spotted a fascinating variety, from purple-tinted ube pandesal (a Filipino bread roll) stuffed with cheese.

Plus rich slices of coffee cakes…

…in multiple varieties!

We also snagged croissants, pineapple buns, bombolini (aka Italian custard-filled donuts), varieties of Italian anise cookies, and much more. Bonello also features cakes, bars, tarts, and sandwiches.

The long and the short of it is that we were impressed by every bite. It’s all beautifully crafted and composed in flavors you won’t find anywhere else in Columbus. I’m also happy to see more businesses taking root in King-Lincoln Bronzeville, and I hope Bonello’s bakery becomes a mainstay for years to come!
