Hi, Everyone –
Normally I’m excited to share Columbus restaurant news with you, but in lieu of the usual Friday Food Bites, I wanted to share resources – some mine and some compiled by others – of ways you can support Columbus restaurants. A lot of them are hurting, and many have had to shutter their doors temporarily.
This puts a lot of people – servers, bartenders, cooks, bussers, dishwashers – out of work. We’re trying to order carryout when we can. A lot of restaurants have adapted menus. Most bakeries, coffee shops, breweries (for retail sales), and food trucks are up and running. If you have a favorite spot, now is the time to support it.
So how can you help? Here are some resources to keep you connected:
- Here’s my guide (updated daily) to Supporting Local Food-Makers: Special Offers, Online Orders, Grocery Delivery, Meals for Food Insecure Kids, & More
- I also wrote a piece for Columbus Alive about general ways you can support the Columbus restaurant community
- I wrote this piece for Experience Columbus about restaurants offering carryout and delivery, as well as bakeries, coffee shops, breweries and beer bars
- Columbus Alive also has a running list of restaurants offering carryout and delivery
- Support Columbus Eats is a great site where restaurants can register and keep updated listings: who’s open, who’s offering delivery, hours, etc.
- Support Local Columbus lists where to buy gift cards to local restaurants
A few more:
- You can also find guides to neighborhood businesses like Short North, Worthington, and Grandview.
- And we’ve been collecting virtual art experiences and other info about local arts organizations at ColumbusMakesArt.com.
- I also contributed to this blog post about surviving social distancing, with tips to survive isolation and being at home with your kiddos
Looking for alternative reading?
- This week I wrote about One Line Coffee’s new Franklinton shop (which you can visit for carryout!)
- You can watch my interview with Brandon Bir, director of education and sustainability at Crimson Cup Coffee
Keep safe, everyone. Wash your hands. Stay home if you’re sick. Check in on friends, family, neighbors. Hoping to see you all out and about again soon.
