Friday Food Bites: January 2, 2021

January 2, 2021

I just couldn’t resist one last report from 2020 (and a first of 2021)! Here’s the latest from the Columbus restaurant world:

  • First, the bad news: Ambrose & Eve reported last week that they have closed for good. Granville-based Lucky Cat Bakery announced that it has ceased operations. And Nancy’s Home Cooking owner Rick Hahn shared this week that they’re closing up. Nancy’s had been operating solely as a cloud kitchen after closing their downtown diner.
  • But there is some good news: Yellow Brick Pizza has started offering carryout from its new Franklinton location at 415 W. Rich St. Hot Chicken Takeover opened its fourth location, this one at 435 Polaris Pkwy. in Westerville. Slurping Turtle ramen shop has opened at Easton, and recently Taco Nice opened at 4832 W. Broad St. Syrian Kitchen is now open for carryout at 2630 Billingsley Rd. near Dublin.
  • And more is on the way: a new eatery called Uptown 51 Kitchen & Bar is coming soon to 51 E. Gay St. downtown. A fast casual Mediterranean spot called Agapé will open at 405 Polaris Pkwy. on Jan. 6.
  • The Wizard of Za, Spencer Saylor’s breakout Instagram pizza hit, announced he is partnering with Fusian to open his first shop, presumably out of the Fusian location at 4214 N. High St. in Clintonville (judging by construction spotted by the author). Saylor said he is focused first on fulfilling online reservations for pizza before he opens up for regular retail sales.
  • The Columbus Ale Trail Volume 6, this year featuring 54 breweries total, will kick off in early January. Learn more about it through Drink Up Columbus.
